The Teen Parent Services program assists young parents in obtaining, information, services and skills necessary to obtain and maintain the mental and physical health of the parents and their children.
What are the Goals of Teen Parent Services?
- Encourage participants to plan for their future well being, including the delay of unplanned additional pregnancies
- Assist participants in obtaining the information, services and skills necessary to become self-supporting.
Who is eligible for Teen Parent Services?
- Under age 20 at the point of identification;
- Are pregnant or a parent (single, or married, including married couples);
- Do not have a high school diploma or GED certificate;
- Are enrolled in or are willing to enroll in high school or GED classes;
- And receive one of the following:
- Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
- AllKids
- Food Stamps
- Women, Infants & Children (WIC)
- Family Case Management (FCM)
The following services are available through Teen Parent Services:
- Comprehensive case management
- Referrals and follow-up for social services
- Individual educational and job interest assessment
- Emphasis on the completion of high school or GED
- Use of mixed education and work-related programs
- Development of an individualized, comprehensive and responsive education plan
- Workshop sessions on various parenting and self-improving topics
- Literacy testing and retesting
- Career development
- Computer assisted education
- GED classes
- Teen parent newsletter
- Payments for child care, transportation and other education related expenses
- Field trips
- Coordination of services with DHS funded program
