McLean County Coroner's Office Educational Programs

Youthful Offender's Program

In conjunction with the McLean County Juvenile Court Services Intake Program, the Coroner's Office provides quarterly morgue tours for youths who have been involved with area police due to a drug and/or alcohol related offense.

A McLean County Deputy Coroner gives a tour of the County morgue to juveniles and their parents. Along with the tour, a presentation is given with regard to deaths of young people caused by alcohol and/or drug related incidents. The offender must then write an essay of at least 250 words describing his/her experience and what they have learned through the process.

Educational Program

Educational Tours are available at the McLean County Coroner's Office on the second Tuesday of each month from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm. The experience will be educational as far as learning about the role of the Coroner, the duties and tasks performed by the Coroner and Deputy Coroners, the operations of the morgue, and the various equipment used in death investigations. Please contact Senior Deputy Molly Sullivan at (309) 888-5210 or email Molly Sullivan for further information. Educational Tours may be cancelled at the Coroner's discretion. Qualifications:

  1. Any College or High School student in their junior or senior year may participate.
  2. High School students must be referred by a teacher, guidance counselor, or principle. Parent or Guardian consent required for minors (18 and younger).
  3. A one page essay explaining your interest in the field of forensic science must be sent 30 days prior to the tour.
