This year our office mailed registered voters a vote by mail application as mandated by state law. We're getting these applications back and have noticed a trending point of confusion for voters that we want to bring to your attention to help you avoid issues with its acceptance.
There is a section at the bottom of the application (see the image below with a red box) with three checkboxes.
- The first check box is to receive a vote by mail ballot for the November 8 General Election only.
- The second checkbox informs our office to send you a vote by mail ballot for elections that do not require you to choose a party.
- The third checkbox informs our office to send you a vote by mail ballot of all future elections. Some elections (primaries) require a voter to select a party to receive a ballot.
If you select the third checkbox, you are asked to choose ONE party whose ballot you wish to receive. In essence, by checking this box, then a party, you are telling us to send a ballot for that party when an election requires it.
For example, if you check the box next to "Democratic", you will receive a Democratic part ballot for any election that requires a party selection. The 2024 Primary Election will require a party selection. For that Primary Election, you will receive a ballot for the party you selected.
If you select the third checkbox option, please only check one party. Selection no parties or more than one party will result in your vote by mail application being rejected and will require you to correct the application or submit a new one.
